Virginia Tech!

We forget the main cause behind the action that Cho Seung Hui took that day. We blame the incident on his mental instability and lack of thinking. I think that he was a smart man to have planned all this out by himself and also do the perfect crime without anybody being able to stop him. He might have thought about this attack for a long time, about whether he wanted to commit it or not. He was supposedly thought to be mental (which he was not found to be) in his past but I do not make any connections from that to this incident at Virginia Tech. He said he died as Jesus Christ not as a mockery, but to make us understand his motives. We could have prevented this. The availability of guns, the violence in movies and games are not the main cause behind this tragic event. If a man is determined to do something, he will find a way to do it and nothing can stop him. He was breaking the rules when he brought the gun to the school but he did anyways. Rules can not stop a determined person. The main cause for which he died and committed the massacre was the discrimination that he had to go through. He did this as an example to show that Americans need to stop thinking about the superiority of their culture over the rest of the world. I have been here for less than three years and I have already come across people making fun of my accent, color, food, culture, etc. Anyone who faces such discrimination constantly from his peers is bound to break free at some point. His message clearly states that he was made fun of and that many cruel things were done to him. What we have to learn from this is not that he was a mad man, but that we could have prevented it if we didn't make fun of people and if we had left behind our ethnocentric values. Respect every culture, every language, and every different colored person. If a person does not know English, it does not mean that he is uncultured. We have to know that people's cultures might be far better than us. We should accept that the Virginia Tech was a cause of what our culture and our values can do to people and I repeat, this did not happen because of guns, games, or his mental health. Prevent this from happening. Prevent the racial comments. America should try to fix our own problems before trying to mend other countries. We must drop the notion that America is a perfect country. We should treat everyone equal, doesn't matter if they know the language or not. Schools must teach the students to respect and not do make fun of people different from themselves. If not, the banning of guns or any such thing is going to do nothing to help stop the incident from reoccurrence. This did not happen because of his mental health but because of us. The news media does not tell people about that truth that he wanted to tell us. We hate him but to prevent this from recurring, we should listen to what he said. Try watching the movie "Bang Bang, You're Dead" and that might help understand why people do such crimes. America is not for the KKK, but America is for everyone-despite the color, sex, age, or language. The news must focus more about why he did this and stop blaming this on his mental health. We are not hiding the truth, the news should speak the truth if the people like it or not. American culture did this and it will happen again if we don't prevent it - stop the discrimination. Fix our problems before we try to help this world. America is not perfect and we should not think it is either! America shouldn't be ethnocentric, we should respect!
